Let´s say No to bullying
Some reflections from the secondary students during the anti-bullying week
JOIN US TO STOP BULLYING. Bullying is a widespread and serious problem that can happen anywhere. It is not a phase teenagers should have to go through, it is not "just messing around"… and it is not something we just grow out of. Bullying can cause serious and lasting harm. We were all created differently for a reason and it’s not something we should make fun of, it’s something we should all embrace. Honestly, I find it ridiculous that people have the intention to make other people feel bad. How does that make sense?

Bullying can affect people in different ways, therefore just don’t do it. Just saying the slightest thing might set someone off. You DON’T KNOW THAT PERSON and what they’ve dealt with. What if someone was on the verge of suicide and you just hit there last nerve. You have to respect and tolerate everyone no matter what your beliefs are. A lot of people have suffered from bullying. This is a problem that affects everyone.

One year ago, I listened to members of the values committee encourage the “anti-bullying week” that takes place annually. And like probably all of the students, I didn´t take note, paid much attention or believed in what they said; after all, bullying never happened to me. To be honest, I almost ever took their efforts as a joke, seeing bullying as an external phenomenon that occurs far away from my world.
Nevertheless it is because of bullying that 13% of adolescents in Colombia drop out of school. It is because of bullying that students in school and college in this country most often tend to end their lives. It is because of bullying that 1 out of 5 teenagers suffer miserably through their secondary education.

Bullying is responsible for many atrocities in our modern society. It is up to us to prevent it and stop it. At the end of the day there is no point in harming one another, we are all here sharing more than a third of our time at school, meaning that we spend almost the same time with our peers as the time we spend a home.
