ANTI-BULLYING WEEK

October 16th - October 19th 2012

During the week...

FS-KS1 During literacy time will do activities of Angry Birds.

KS2 In groups the students will have to choose between two mini anti-bullying sketches. They have to create an end for the story and act it out. There will be one winner per year group. The four groups that win will act in the Primary Anti-Bullying Assembly. The deadline to decide the winners is Thursday, October 18th at 12pm.

October 16th. Tuesday

7.25 am. KS2 Antibullying Wake up - Shake up "Stop Bullying"

7.35 am. FS-KS1 Antibullying Wake up - Shake up "Stop Bullying"

7.40 am. KS3 & KS4 Antibullying message in Secondary lines

1.45 pm. Bus Monitors. Will receive a talk about bullying prevention.

October 17th. Wednesday

Registration time. KS2 Students will watch a video from the values committee members about the importance of saying NO to Bullying.

Who/when/where/what

• Between 1 in 5 and 1 in 7 students report being bullied once a week or more.

• Around 62% of students with Autism Spectum disorder report being bullied once a week or more.

• Bullying most often occurs in the last years of primary and the first couple of years at secondary school.

• Males typically report being bullied more than females.

• Children with positive relationships with their parents are less likely to bully.

• Around 85% of bullying incidents happen within peer groups

• Generally verbal bullying such as name "calling" is the most common form of bullying.

• Bullying often occurs when there is little or no supervision around.

• Bullying is the fourth most common reason young people seek help from children’s help services

Impacts:

• Children who are bullied are more likely to have higher levels of stress, anxiety, depression and illness

• People who bully are more likely to drop out of school, use drugs and alcohol and engage in criminal behaviour

• Positive and supportive school relationships between principals, teachers, students and parents can have a positive impact on reducing bullying.
